Overview
ONCB offers two videos to review recertification requirements.
ONCB now accepts limited amounts of continuing medical education (CME) credit, as well as credit from approved providers of pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and social work continuing education.
Below are detailed guidelines on the many types of professional activities that can be used to meet recertification requirements:
Every CE certificate should have a statement identifying the activity sponsor as an approved provider of continuing education in nursing, medicine, or the other accepted disciplines. An activity will not be accepted for recertification if the CE certificate does not have this statement.
A CE activity can be used only once during a 5-year certification term. This includes multiple presentations on the same content or annually required CE courses (e.g., domestic violence) in the certificant’s state of licensure.
Contact hours for any one offering may not be split between one certification period and another certification period.
Credit is not given for basic life support (BLS) or BLS instructor courses.
Timeline for Earning CE for Recertification
With your initial certification, you may accrue contact hours from the day of testing. Accrual of continuing education credit for the next 5-year recertification cycle begins after July 1, with certification expiring on June 30. Continuing education can be stored within LearningBuilder. All offerings must be transcribed from personal or hospital CE records to LearningBuilder, and submitted with CE certificates as part of the audit process; portfolio listings are not accepted.
