ONCB now offers Retest for Success…a unique program to help RNs earn the only credential that recognizes their commitment to lifelong learning and the high level of knowledge that contributes to effective orthopaedic patient care.
How it works
With Retest for Success, participating health care facilities can register groups of 5 or more RNs or NPs to take the ONC® (basic credential) or ONP-C® (nurse practitioner credential) examination. Candidates do not need to test together; they can develop their own exam preparation plans and schedule their test dates any time within 90 days after registration. Nearly 80% of ONC candidates pass on their first examination attempt. As a participant in Retest for Success, however, any nurse who is not successful on the first attempt can retest without paying additional exam fees but must wait a minimum of 90 days to retake the examination.
Reduced test anxiety for you…less fear of failure because you can retest for success!
More help for exam candidates
To further boost exam success, ONCB offers valuable online self-assessment examinations to help identify areas of strength as well as areas for additional study. These 50-question self-assessments cover various content areas from the examination (e.g., degenerative disease, metabolic and inflammatory disorders). They use the same computer-based environment as the real certification exams, giving candidates increased confidence and decreased anxiety as they prepare to take the actual certification test. ONCB offers discounted pricing on these study resources for Retest for Success groups.
Through partnership with the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON), all program participants can be offered in volume pricing on additional certification preparation materials published by NAON.
How to begin
Discuss Retest for Success with your nurse leaders and ask them to review the program contract. Encourage them to contact ONCB Executive Director Dottie Roberts with any questions, or to discuss details of program participation. A nurse leader with authority to sign contracts on behalf of your employer can complete the contract and return it to:
330 N. Wabash, Suite 2000
Chicago, IL 60611
Attn: Retest for Success
The contract is good for 1 year; a countersigned copy will be returned to your facility’s contact person. Once a signed contract is received, your facility’s contact person will receive the special examination application—only available to program participants—for distribution to exam candidates. Many hospitals make the contract available on their Intranet.
At least 5 applications must be submitted together to ONCB with payment and supporting documents. After the minimum of 5 hospital RNs has been met, the hospital may send individual applications for the remainder of the contract period if additional groups of 5 exam candidates are not able to test. Retest for Success applications receive expedited processing by ONCB’s test vendor…candidates may schedule their exams very quickly after registration, or take up to 90 days to test. Any nurse who is not successful on the first attempt will have an additional 90 days to retest without payment of additional fees.
Retest for Success participants are not eligible for other group discounts offered by ONCB.
