Exam Registration Overview
Please note: There are two paths in the online application process.
Retest for Success Candidates
The Retest for Success path is only for nurses from healthcare facilities that have an active contract with ONCB for the Retest for Success incentive program. Nurses from Retest for Success facilities have a unique code to allow them to access the correct application pathway. Please contact your nurse manager or leader for your facility’s Retest for Success code.
Individual Candidates
Nurses from hospitals without a Retest for Success program contract should use the regular application pathway.
Confirm Your Exam Eligibility
Review eligibility criteria for the ONC (RN credential) and ONP-C (nurse practitioner) exams.
How to Apply
- Review the ONCB Candidate Handbook. As part of the application, you will be required to attest to having read this important exam information.
- ONCB has transitioned its certification applications to a new platform! To access the application, create a free account or log in to an existing account: https://oncb.learningbuilder.com
- Once you create a LearningBuilder account, navigate to the ‘Learning Plans’ tab in your account homepage. Under ‘Apply for a Credential’, choose the exam you’re applying for and click the orange ‘Begin’ button.
- When you start the application, you will be prompted to enter their date of birth.
- Then, you will be required to upload evidence of current RN licensure. NP candidates also will need to verify exam eligibility by uploading evidence of graduate degree completion as a nurse practitioner.
- All candidates will need to enter their work experience information to the application, along with the email of a supervisor who will be asked to verify that experience electronically. Candidates must have a minimum of 1,000 hours worked in orthopedic nursing over the past three years.
- You will then be directed to an application page in which they will be asked if their facility is an RfS partner. If your facility is participating in the program, click ‘Yes’ and enter the facility code. If not, click ‘No’.
- You will then be asked to enter personal information (e.g. name, birth date, facility name, etc.), enter exam information (e.g. where you will take the exam, accommodations), agree with an attestation statement, and provide (if applicable) evidence of NAON, NOVA, CONA or AANP membership (members of these organizations receive a discounted exam price).
- You will then be asked to complete a short demographic survey.
- After you have completed this section, you will be asked to enter payment information. At the payment page, applicants should click ‘Pay via Credit Card’ to pay online, or click ‘Pay Later’ to pay for the exam at a later date. If you want an invoice for your records, you can select “Email Invoice” to receive a PDF copy of their invoice to pay later. We do not accept check payments. The application will be held until payment is received. Please note: if payment is not received within 90 days, the application will be deleted.
- Once payment has been received, we will review your application and confirm your eligibility. Once you have been approved, you will receive a Notice to Schedule email from the test vendor, Mezure Learning within a few days of your approval.
